Introduction

Gokyo Valley Trek is an adventure that takes you to the most wonderful scenic valley enriched with a glorious panorama of high peaks that reflects on its glacial lakes within the hidden area of Yak grazing summer pasture.

The area around Gokyo Valley falls on less busy trekking trails than on the main route of Namche to Everest base camp, which makes the country more interesting for peaceful walks in great tranquil surroundings.

Walking away from the main path for some days after Namche, we reach the beautiful and hidden valley of Gokyo and its serene emerald-colored glacial lakes where Mt. Cho-Oyu world 6th highest peaks reflect on the lakes of Gokyo.

Trek Outline

Starting our marvelous journey and adventure to Gokyo valley after a short flight from Kathmandu to reach Lukla, a busy Sherpa town where walk continues following Dudh Koshi River right up to its glacial source at Gokyo valley fed from Ngozumba the longest glacier of Nepal Himalaya.

The trek heads through interesting farm villages crossing the same river several times and enters Sagarmatha National Park to reach high and colorful Namche Bazaar located in the amphitheater or a U shape.

An exciting place for rest days where short leads you to the high scenic hill for fabulous views of Everest and other range of peaks offers a wide range of facilities for visitors as well for local villagers where once a week busy Saturday market held.

From Namche, the walk follows on the nice winding trail with views of Everest, Amadablam and other range of peaks as route leads to steep climb away from the main trail to reach our highlight at Gokyo valley.

Walking into gorge covered within green tree lines till Dole where the vegetation changes into smaller bushes as route leads to our main destination at Gokyo main 3rd lakes after trekking past first and second lakes.

At Gokyo with ample time to enjoy grand views with a climb to high Gokyo-Ri for a panorama of world four high mountains that includes Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Makalu towards the east with an array of lesser peaks.

Enjoying time of your life within glorious views return journey to Namche on downhill with some ups then finally ending walks at Lukla for scenic short flight to Kathmandu on completing a grand experience and adventure on Gokyo Valley Trekking.

The season for Gokyo Valley Trek:

Nearly all months of the year from March to May and September till February within spring-autumn / fall and winter times, except summer and monsoon wet season of June to mid-September heavy rains on southern sides of Everest and Khumbu region.

Best months and high time from March to May when days are longer with much sunlight hours clear morning till late afternoon, chances of light shower and snow on higher altitude above 3,000 m high.

Springtime hills are bright with wild-flowers in full bloom, especially the rhododendron of various species from tall trees to bushes a national flower of Nepal.

Mid-September to December another high time when days are clear for mountain views and pleasant walks, much shorter sun-light hours due to autumn and winter season.

Freezing cold temperatures in the morning and night times above 2,800 meters higher can expect snow above 3,000 m onward.
