Introduction

Chulu West Peak Climb one of few Nepal and around Himalaya trekking peaks where one can
gain much mountaineering experience, although Chulu West Peak at the height of above
6,419m / 21,059 ft high.

Adventure of great adventurous feats required for alpine style climbing of some tough technical
effort to encounter, with enough time for practice and preparation leads you to high success to
reach the summit of Chulu West Peak, where few trekkers and adventurer seldom venture this
beautiful mountains.

Chulu West Peak Climb was first climbed in 4 th November 1978 by Dr. Larry Zaroff with Peter
Lev guided by Nepalese climbers Ang Jambo and Lakpa Nuru Sherpa, since then the mountain is
often visited for the classic climb to reach the summit of Chulu West Peak.

Adventure starts on same route of famous and popular Annapurna circuit trail walking from low
warm farm areas of Lamjung district to reach high cooler hills of Manang region, as trek
progress heading past nice lovely villages of Jagat, Tal Besi and Dharapani and within nice cool
shade of alpine tree lines.

Walk takes you to large town of Chame headquarter of Manang district and then over high
scenic hills to enter into scenic and beautiful Manang Valley from Pisang village onward facing
views of Chulus with Pisang peaks that includes Northern range of Annapurna Himalaya range.
From Pisang onward into arid and barren windswept landscapes to reach at famous large and
main village enclosed within tall peaks of Annapurna II, III with Gangapurna and views of Chulus
a lovely and interesting place for rest days to explore around its village festooned with
interesting Buddhism religion.

After Manang village where route takes far west corners and of from Manang valley to reach at
Chulu West Peak base camp and beyond, from base camp adding more two camps to make the
climb more accessible.

Preparation and practice climb days are spared before the main day to the summit, where High
and Camp-I established and as well to study the route of the climb for safe climb and descend,
as clear morning weather permits then heading for the big tough climb to reach the summit of
Chulu West Peak.

With long and strenuous climb using much of technical effort where the top summit offers
glorious panorama of high snow capped mountain range with all Chulus, Gangapurna, Tilicho
peaks includes Damodar Himal range with Dhaulagiri mountains towards far west direction.

takes you over Thorang-La high pass to reach within Lower Mustang area at Muktinath a place
with holy Hindu Temple.

At Muktinath where our trek completes heading down towards wide Kaligandaki River valley to
reach at Jomsom a large town and headquarter of Mustang district and main hub for Thakali
people the native of Lower Mustang.

From Jomsom early morning short scenic flight brings you to beautiful and famous touristic city
in Pokhara, a wonderful spot located on the laps of massive Annapurna Himalaya with towering
Machhapuchare Himal ‘Fish Tail’ that reflects on calm Phewa and Begnas Lakes.

Pokhara, a great magnificent place to complete our mesmerizing adventure and then head back
to Kathmandu after a great remarkable experience on Chulu West Peak Climbing.

Season for Chulu West Peak Climbing and Trekking:

Best time March to May and September till November months of the year from spring-autumn
/ fall, where few adventurers might be interested on low season during summer and monsoon
wet season of June to mid September heavy rains on southern sides of Annapurna Himalaya
range.

March to May when days are longer with much sunlight hours clear morning till late afternoon,
chances of light shower and snow on mid hills above 2,000 m high.

Spring seasons, hills are alive with bright colors from wild-flowers in full blooming time
especially the rhododendron of various species from tall trees to bush, also a national flower of
Nepal.

Another peak times to visit from mid September to November months when days are clear for
mountain views and climbs with pleasant walks, much shorter sun-light hours due to autumn
and winter season.

Freezing cold temperature in the morning and night times above 1,800 meters higher can
expect snow above 2,500 m onward.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Morning sightseeing tour of Kathmandu around places of interest.
Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Syange 1,140 m via Besisar 780 m – 06 hrs.
Day 04:  Trek to Dharapani 1,860 m -06 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Chame 2,670 m – 05 hrs
Day 06: Trek to Pisang village 3,230 m-05 hrs.
Day 07: Trek to Manang Village 3,450 m -05 hrs.
Day 08: At Manang rest day for acclimatization and local exploration.
Day 09: Trek to Leder 4,230 m via Yak Kharka 4,100 m- 05 hrs.
Day 10: Trek to Chulu West base camp 4,930 m -04 hrs.
Day 11: Trek and climb to Chulu West high camp 5,600 m -04 hrs.
Day 12: Rest and preparation for the climb
Day 13: Climb to Chulu West camp – I at above 5,900 m-05 hrs.
Day 14: Climb to Chulu West Peak 6,419m / 21,059 ft descend to Base Camp -08 hrs.
Day 15: Trek to Thorang High Camp 4,600 m/15,091ft – 04 hrs.
Day 16:  Trek to Muktinath 3,800 crossing Thorang-La Pass 5,416 m- 06 hrs.
Day 17: Drive to Jomsom 2,715 m -02 hrs.
Day 18: Short flight from Jomsom to Pokhara and transfer to hotel.
Day 19: Drive / Fly to Kathmandu – 06 hrs.
Day 20: International Departure homeward bound.
